Why Bernie beats Trump -- and Hillary doesn't -- in one New York Times paragraph worth remembering

If Democrats want to protect America from the obscenity that is Donald Trump, they had better choose Bernie Sanders as their nominee. This paragraph from a New York Times article discussing Hillary’s potential turnout problems is worth closely reading:

And despite the seemingly inexorable demographic rise of Hispanic voters, the American electorate is still overwhelmingly white. Some analysts said they believed Mr. Trump could even exceed Mitt Romney’s 59 percent share of the white vote — winning over disaffected Republicans and even working-class Democratic men, and putting Democratic-leaning swing states like Michigan, and potentially Pennsylvania, in play. That could offset losses Republicans might suffer among Latino voters, forcing the Democratic nominee to overperform significantly among the smaller proportion of nonwhite voters.

Who is going to best appeal to “working-class Democratic men” in a general election contest with Donald Trump? Hillary “free trade and emails and Libya” Clinton or Bernie “unions and fair trade and single-payer health care” Sanders? The answer is obvious: Bernie.

Maybe I’m wrong, but maybe I’m right. And with polls showing that Bernie beats Trump by a bigger margin than Hillary, is it worth taking a risk on a deeply-flawed candidate like Hillary?

Hillary supporters need to start falling in line behind the most effective candidate with the best chance of beating Trump — and they should do it sooner rather than later.
